Marie Newcomb Futrell, 91, died peacefully and went to her heavenly home Thursday, August 10, 2023, in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Marie was born on November 25, 1931, in Greene County, NC to Leslie Newcomb and Margaret Parris Newcomb. She was a 1949 graduate of Snow Hill High School and a 1952 graduate of Carolina General Nursing School in Wilson, NC. She was devoted to God and her family, teaching the 5-year-old children in Sunday School, singing in the choir, helping with the United Methodist Youth Fellowship and the Good News Singers of Fayetteville. She was instrumental in organizing the Bordeaux Neighborhood Watch in Fayetteville. She was a life-long Methodist and a member of Haymount United Methodist Church.
Marie was predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Leslie G Newcomb, and Aaron K. Newcomb.
Marie is survived by her husband of 70 years, Zane G. Futrell, of Fayetteville, NC, one daughter Sarah Futrell Meoni of Fayetteville, NC, and one son Dena Futrell and wife Brenda, of O’Fallon, IL; grandchildren, Ashley Futrell of Portland, OR, Heather Futrell of Herndon, VA, Jessica Meoni Albrecht and husband Ed of Whispering Pines, NC, Jennifer Meoni Boggs and husband Jason, of Liberty, NC; great-grandchildren, Grace Boggs, Zane Boggs, Isabella Albrecht, and Benjamin Albrecht; one sister, Anne Newcomb Mercer of Wilson, NC, one brother, Donald H. Newcomb and wife Justine, of Wilson, NC, and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at Haymount United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, NC on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 2 pm. Visitation with the family will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be immediately following the service at Cumberland Memorial Gardens, Fayetteville, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to The Argo Endowment Fund, Haymount United Methodist Church, 1700 Fort Bragg Rd., Fayetteville, NC 28303.
