She moved to Fayetteville, NC in 2015 to be with her family. In 2016 she suffered with 2 aneurysms and had a lifelong battle with diabetes. On June 3, 2020, she went into Highsmith Rainey Hospital within stage renal kidney failure and was hospital bound for 8 months when she finally lost her battle in the hospital on January 31, 2020.

Her remains are being handled by Sullivans Highland Funeral Home, and she will be laid to rest in Gilley Family Cemetery in Big Stone Gap, VA.

A celebration of her life will be held in May at the cemetery.
