Miss Lois Janet Lambie, beloved school teacher and choir director, died February 10, 2013, in Cape Fear Medical Center. Miss Lambie was born April 8, 1921 and was a native of Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Joseph Sioussa and Glennah Dulin Lambie.
A memorial service for Miss Lambie will be held April 7, 2013 at MacPherson Presbyterian Church, Fayetteville, North Carolina. As she requested, her ashes will be scattered over the Atlantic Ocean from an airplane flown by a former student.
A member of the first class of the Fayetteville-Cumberland County Music Hall of Fame, Miss Lambie earned her bachelorâs degree from Wooster College and her masterâs degree from The University of Rochester. She came to North Carolina in 1943 to accept a position at Flora MacDonald College and, except for time in Pennsylvania to care for her mother, maintained her home in North Carolina thereafter.
Miss Lambie joined the faculty of 71st School in 1950, teaching music in the elementary grades and directing choral groups at the high school level. In the school year 1959-1960, Miss Lambie received a leave of absence from 71st School and served as President of the North Carolina Classroom Teachers Association. Starting in 1960, she taught exclusively in the high school as she began teaching Latin and continued to direct the high school choral groups.
The alma maters for 71st High School, Methodist University, and several middle schools were composed by Miss Lambie. She also composed several anthems which were performed by the choir at MacPherson Presbyterian Church, where she was a member and formerly served as choir director. Prior to her service at MacPherson, she played the organ and directed the choir at Village Presbyterian Church.
Miss Lambie is survived by her niece, Jean Lange and her husband Leonard, nephews Joe and John Lambie; several grand nieces and nephews and their children. She was predeceased by her sister and international traveling buddy and artist, Ruth Lambie, who taught in the pre-school curriculum at East Carolina University. Other siblings who also have passed away were her brother, Richard, and her sister, Mary Helen.
She was also predeceased by her two devoted dogs, Guy and Kasha.
