Leon C. Carter, 97, of Gray's Creek, passed away Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Mrs. Carter was a retired civil service employee, who worked on Fort Bragg for more than 30 years and enjoyed singing in the choir as a member of the Cape Fear Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Gray's Creek Women's Club. She is survived by daughter, Katherine Marsh and husband Vance of Gray's Creek; four grandchildren, Janet Smith, Vance Marsh, Kathy Redlin and Michael Marsh; along with six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed Wood and Lee Anna Hall Cashwell; two sisters, Goldie Davis and Alleen Rahn; and two brothers, Wade and Eugene Cashwell. A visitation will take place at Cape Fear Baptist Church today, Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, from 1 to 2 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. Burial will take place in Cape Fear Baptist Church cemetery on Butler Nursery Road in Fayetteville. The Rev. David Barco and the Rev. David Canady will be officiating. The family would like to express their appreciation to her caretakers, Blanche McKoy and Rosie Burns.
