John L. Hughes

US Army SFC (Ret) John L. Hughes, 86, of Fayetteville, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.

He proudly served his country during the Korean and Vietnam Wars.  After retiring from the military, he worked at Kelly Springfield for 20 years.

He was born in Derby, VA, on August 28, 1936, to the late Ira and Lizzie Hughes.  Also preceding him in death was his son, Dan Hughes.

Left to cherish John’s memory is his wife of 64 years, Bernice; sons, Johnny C. Hughes and wife Joan, and Robert Hughes; grandchildren, Hunter, Allison, Josh, and Matthew; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will conduct a private service.

Services are entrusted to Sullivan’s Highland Funeral Service & Crematory.
