Joan Colleen Clark West Faircloth, age 89, was called to her heavenly home on Wednesday, March 6, 2024. She was born on June 15, 1934, in Cumberland County, North Carolina. Joan is preceded in death by her father, Samuel Clark; mother, Evelyn Clark Luetjohan; stepfather, Hugo Luetjohan; husband of 39 years, Bradley West; sister, Ruth Clark Gibson; and husband of 21 years, Lemuel Frank Faircloth, Jr.
Joan is survived by her stepson, Frank Faircloth and wife, Kay; stepdaughter, Fran Faircloth Harris and husband, Jim; and grandsons: David Zachary Faircloth, and Samuel Joseph Faircloth (wife, Hailey).
Joan grew up in East Fayetteville and graduated from Stedman High School in 1953. She married Bradley West in 1954 and they spent many years in Kinston, NC where she worked in the office at Dupont. Brad passed away in December 1993 from a brief battle with cancer. In December 1994, a mutual friend introduced Joan to Jr. Faircloth, a barber from Vander. Jr.’s wife had passed away the previous March from cancer. It didn’t take long for a romance to blossom; and on May 21, 1995, they were married. Joan and Jr. enjoyed traveling to Alaska and other places across America in their RV. They often took one day road trips (never knowing where they might end up) going shopping and always finding a good place to eat. In 2011, they were able to take the trip of a lifetime to Israel with their pastor, Dr. John Hedgepeth. In June 2016, Jr. passed away. Since that time, Joan has enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, especially her two grandsons (who she was very proud of) and her cousin, Beth. She enjoyed cooking and watching the birds. She also enjoyed watching tv (cooking shows, Hallmark Channel, and Jeopardy). She was very independent and liked to be on the go. She looked forward each week to having her hair done by SuAnn, who became a dear friend. SuAnn was Joan’s hairstylist for 26 years.
