Jeffrey Gregg Hill, 52, of Hope Mills, passed away Friday, June 29, 2012, in his residence.
Jeff was born Feb. 8, 1960, in Fort Campbell, Ky. He lived with his family in Lexington, and attended Central Davidson High School. He finished his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration finance. He graduated cum laude from UNCP in 2006.
Ret. Sgt. 1st Class Hillâs military career began in 1978, as a U.S. Marine on a three-year enlistment. He left the Marine Corps honorably in late 1981, looking for bigger challenges; in early 1982, Jeff joined the U.S. Army. His unit of assignment upon completion of basic and Airborne school was Recon Plt, CSC, 2-325th Airborne Infantry, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg. Mr. Hill would later go on to volunteer for Special Forces and serve with 5th Special Forces Group (A) as both a weapons and commo sergeant (18B & 18E), and also with the 3rd SFG (A) as they reactivated in the early 90s, until he was awarded the MOS for assistant operations and intelligence sergeant (18F). While assigned to USAJFKSWCS in the late 90s, Mr. Hill served as a senior instructor and writer at the ASOT course. Mr. Hillâs highest award was the Bronze Star Medal for Valor, which he received during Operation Urgent Fury in Grenada in 1983.
After retiring from the Army in 1997, Jeff became involved in the mortgage industry. He and his wife owned and operated Southern Home Loans from 2000-2009. During the last few years, Jeff was a member of Manna Church and was active in the Menâs Fraternity and Band of Brothers.
Jeff leaves behind his loving wife of 15 years, Victoria; his son, Jeffrey II and his wife, Audrey and his stepchildren, Katie and John.
Jeff loved his grandchildren, Dylan, Jacob, Morgan and Alexis; and also his canine children, Lilly, Larry, Droopy, Hermine and Sherman.
He will be greatly missed by his father, Horace and his wife, Carol; his sister, Lisa and her husband; his stepsisters, Dawn and Vicki and her husband and their children and grandchildren. He will also be missed by his mother-in-law, Jean Harris.
Jeff was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Harrison Hill; and by his father-in-law, Hollis B. Harris.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2012, at Manna Church, 3744 Legion Road in Hope Mills. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
