Jean C. Wright

Jean Coleman Wright, 93, of Fayetteville, NC passed away on July 28, 2024. 

Jean was born in Cumberland County, North Carolina on July 7, 1931 to the late George Lacey Coleman, Sr. and Dorothy Jones Coleman. She grew up in Fayetteville, NC and graduated from Massey Hill High School in 1949. She was married and divorced from the late Paul Wright.

Petite and fashionable, Jean’s first job was at a dress shop in the historic Eutaw Shopping Center in Fayetteville, but most of her career years were in the office at Tew Tile & Carpet Company, where she worked until she was in her seventies. Jean was a member of Victory United Methodist Church where she was an active member of the “Young Adults” Sunday School class.

She was a dedicated aunt and loving member of her family. Her mind was sharp and she was interested in their lives. She was fiercely independent and maintained her beautifully appointed home with grace. She loved butterflies and she was delicate in nature herself. She admired her nieces and nephews and loved to buy gifts for the little ones. She had a sense of humor that kept everyone entertained and she was fun at family gatherings.

Jean is survived by her precious companion Mesa, a 12-year-old little dog that was always by her side; her brother, George L. Coleman, Jr.; her niece, Carla Crouch and husband Scott of Wilmington, NC; nephews, Keith Coleman of Orlando, FL, Eric Barwick and wife Peggy of Wilmington, NC, Kevin Coleman and wife Lori of Fayetteville, NC. She is also survived by five great-nieces and nephews, Tyler, Dustin, Haley, Logan and Lauren; one great-great niece; and many dear friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her sister-in-law Shirley Coleman and sister, Faye Barwick.

Visitation with family will be at 1 o’clock PM with the celebration of life service following at 2 o’clock PM on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Victory UMC in Fayetteville.
