Irene Gainey Hyman

Our beautiful and loving mother, Irene, passed away on 12/18/2021 with her devoted daughters Diane Hyman Mobley and Kaye Hyman Mirabelli, at her side. She passed peacefully in her home on Puritan Street where she had resided since 1959. Our Mom was 97 at the time of her passing.
She was born September 12, 1924 in Dunn, North Carolina to Stephen W. and Georgianna Gainey. She was the sixth child of eight siblings who have all preceded her in passing. She was a farm girl and loved working in the soil. Mom was a devout Christian who read her bible daily until her eyesight severely declined. At which point, my sister, Diane, took over the bible readings and they prayed together daily. She often repeated her favorite bible verse which is Psalms 14: “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength and my redeemer”.
Mom graduated from Central High School in 1942, and in June 1942 she married our dad, John N. Hyman, who passed away in October 1993. They made their home and raised my sister and I in the very special community of Massey Hill. Mom worked for many years in various manufacturing jobs, including Puritan Mill, up until her retirement. During her retirement she spent many hours with grandchildren and great grandchildren and working in her yard.
Mom is survived by her two loving daughters, Kaye Hyman Mirabelli of California, and Diane Hyman Mobley of Fayetteville; grandchildren, John R. Wright, Jamie Wright Valencia (Jimmy), Kelly Mobley Reynolds (Pete), Rhonda Mobley Hoffman (Chris), Michael Todd Mobley (deceased), 9 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sullivan’s Highland Funeral Service & Crematory. Mom will be laid to rest next to our dad in Lafayette Memorial Park & Mausoleum. A memorial service will be held at 2pm, on Saturday, January 1, 2022, at Balm In Gilead, Family Counseling Ministries, Inc., located at 3110 Doc Bennett Road, Fayetteville, NC 28306.
