He was born on August 11, 1930, in Cumberland County, NC to the late George W. Hales and Janie Scoggins Hales.
He worked in the furniture manufacture for many years.
He is survived by his companion Effie-Mae Wood, of Fayetteville, NC ; and nine nieces and nephews.
