Gerald Allen Teele

   Gerald Allen “Jerry” Teele passed away peacefully at his home on May 17th after a long period of declining health.  Jerry was born Jan.20, 1944 in Shelby, NC. He was the son of the late Buford Hoyt Teele and Nelle Marie Hoy Teele.
   Jerry was a loving husband to his wife of 51 years, Margaret Alice.  He was also a wonderful and supportive Dad to his son Barrett and Paw-Paw to grandson Jackson, all of whom he loved so much.
   Jerry graduated from Shelby High School and UNC- Chapel Hill where he received his BS in Accounting. At Chapel Hill he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi and served as treasurer and President of his chapter.  He was a life long Tar Heel fan and made many trips to Kenan Stadium and the Dean Dome to cheer on his beloved Tar Heels.
   After graduation from Chapel Hill, Jerry began his professional career as a CPA with Arthur Anderson in Charlotte, NC.  It was there in Charlotte that he met and married his wife, Margaret Alice. They moved to Fayetteville for him to assume a position with North Carolina Natural Gas where he eventually became their Chief Financial Officer.  During his time with NCNG he served as President of the Southeastern Gas Association.   After his retirement with NCNG, he began his third career as a Financial Advisor for Smith/ Barney.  
   Jerry was a member of First Presbyterian Church for over 40 years, where he served many years as a Deacon and Elder.  His love of the Lord showed in his devotion to his church.
   Outside of work, Jerry enjoyed golf and watching sports. He also enjoyed trips to his mountain cabin in Blowing Rock and the serenity it brought.
Jerry was active in many local organizations in our community including United Way, Fayetteville Urban Ministry, The Rams Club, Cape Fear Regional Theatre, The Cotillion Club, and his favorite, The Fayetteville Kiwanis Club, where he served as both Secretary and President.  He also received the Kiwanis Hixson Fellow Award.
   Jerry is survived by his wife, Margaret Alice Brown Teele; son, Barrett Alexander and wife, Devin; grandson, Jackson Alexander; sister, Kathy Loveland of Hillsborough, NC; sister-in-law, Julie Draeger of Durham, NC; sister-in-law, Vivian Kramer of Potomac, Maryland; brother-in-law, John W. Brown and wife, Grace of Charlotte,NC; and many loving nieces and nephews.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Ann Teele Hendrick,   Marie Teele Martin; and brother, Phillip Michael Teele.
   A funeral service will be held at the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church at 2:00 on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. Visitation with the family will be held at 1:00-2:00 in the Parlor of the Church prior to the service. Interment will follow at 3:00 at Lafayette Memorial Park.
