George Ray Farmer

George Ray Farmer was born in Greenville, Kentucky to Obey and Delna Farmer on November 11, 1947. He was called home to reside with the Heavenly Father on March 16, 2025.

At a young age the family moved to Vienna, Illinois where he attended and graduated from Vienna High school in 1967. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1968 where he trained as a Medic and later served at Camp Luzon in the Republic of Viet Nam. He received an Honorable Discharge from the U S Army in 1968 and began his career as a truck driver. He purchased his rig, naming it “The Mack”, driving and delivering perishable goods across the midwest and south with his father and brother, and as an independent driver until he lost his eyesight in 1972, later becoming totally blind. He enjoyed reading and knitting shawls. As his eyesight worsened, he applied to and was accepted in “advanced standing,” to Southern Illinois University (SIU), ultimately earning a Master’s Degree in the field of Social Work in 1994. While attending (SIU), he participated on the Debate Team. He would go on to be hired as and perform the duties of a Social Worker at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) in Fayetteville, NC, from which he retired in 2014.

He met his beloved wife Jacqueline (Zenobia) in 1995. They were married in 2005 and resided in Fayetteville, NC. George had no children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Obey Farmer and Delna Beadnell Farmer. He leaves behind to lovingly cherish his memory, his wife, “Zenobia”; his siblings, Glenda Kaplan of Vienna, IL, Felicia Coulter (Michael) of Springfield, IL, his brothers Obie Farmer II (Kelly) of New Baden, IL and David Farmer of IL. George leaves a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws to mourn his passing. His beloved and devoted furbabies, will mourn his passing. Our prayer is that his rest is easy.
