George Brown, U.S. Army SFC (Ret), 80, of Fayetteville, passed away at his home in the presence of his family on Friday, November 18, 2016.
He was born in Cumberland County on May 6, 1936, to the late Lincoln and Lena Brown. Preceding him in death was his wife, Annie Pearl Brown, siblings, Lonnie Jr., Lydia Elizabeth Washington, Lois Shirley, and Kathryn Brown.
George proudly served in the Army for over 23 years. His military service was in Army Communications where he served in the White House Army Communications Agency (WHACA) under three presidents; Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon. He served in various duty stations around the world. During his time in the Army he earned numerous commendations including the Presidential Service Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal.
George is survived by his daughters, Barbara Brown of Winterville, and Bonita Reyes of Sierra Vista, AZ; son, Roger Brown of Hope Mills; sister, Betty Sue Stansbury of Waynesville; special companion, Patricia Carter; numerous nieces and nephews.
George will be laid to rest at Main Post Cemetery at a later date.
