Frederick Albert Healy, Sr. died Monday, May 13, 2013. âFritzâ was born in Flint, Michigan and was a proud graduate of Michigan State University. He was joyously married to the late Jane Macdonald Healy for 58 years, but his greatest attribute was that he enjoyed each and every day that he lived.
Fritz moved to Greensboro, NC in 1965 and lived and worked there for Rucker Wholesale for 13 years, where he served as President of the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce, and the Greensboro Rotary Club, and the Greensboro Swim Association , along with being the Honorary Chairman of the 1977 Greater Greensboro Open.
Fritz and his family moved to Fayetteville in 1978 when he purchased Smithson Beverage. Fritz became a Cumberland County civic leader while serving President of the Chamber of Commerce, President of AUSA and was a driving force behind the Airborne and Special Operations Museum. In 1994, Fritz was named Methodist Universityâs Business Person of the Year, and in 1998 Healy Wholesale was the only Cumberland County business to ever be honored with the Governorâs Business Award in Arts and Humanities.
Of all of their accomplishments Fritz and Jane were the most proud of their children, eleven grandchildren and one great grandson. Surviving are Mac and Linda Healy of Fayetteville, Fritz Jr. and Lynne Healy of Southern Pines, Patsy and Tom Wallace of Roanoke, Virginia and Mary Jane and Harold Beavers of Greensboro. His grandchildren Katie, Ryan, Charlie, Mackie, Emery, Maggie, Ben, Kelly Fritz, III, Mimi Kate, Signe and Claire will miss their Papa but he sure taught them all how to laugh.
Services will be held at St. Patrickâs Catholic Church, 2844 Village Drive at 10:00 am Saturday, May 18th. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Airborne and Special Operations Museum Foundation, 100 Bragg Blvd., Fayetteville, NC 28301 or asomf.org.
