Frances Elliot

Frances Helene Hicks Elliot, 98, of Fayetteville, passed away on Saturday, March 18th, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. 

She was born November 7th, 1924 to Godina Carolina Pope Hicks and DeWitt Hicks, and was the granddaughter of Fannie Broadfoot Tillinghast Pope and John Carwile Pope of Fayetteville.  

She was graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1946, and afterwards taught at Fayetteville High School and 71st High School.

She is preceded in death by husband, William Henry Elliot, Jr., and eldest son, William Henry Elliot III (Hal). Left to cherish her memory are her three sons, Jonathan Hall Elliot, Sr., Warren Sturdivant Elliot and wife Elsie, George Tillinghast Elliot, and daughter Edna Garrison Elliot; seven grandchildren, Shawn Christopher Elliot, Jessica Elliot Meyer and husband Sean, William Garrison Elliot, John Norwood Elliot and wife Sydney, Frances Caroline Elliot, Jonathan Hall Elliot, Jr. (Jay), and Savannah Isabella Elliot and husband Joshua; and three great grandchildren, Zoey Raina Elliot, Charlotte Elliot Meyer, and Gavin Holt Meyer.

A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church, 302 Green Street, Fayetteville, NC 28301.
