Evelyn Blanton Beasley departed from life on earth to life eternal Wednesday, June 5, 2013. She was 81 years old.
She was born March 5, 1932, the daughter of James E. and Naomi Blanton who preceded her in death, as did her husband, Prince E. Beasley; sons, Jamie and David Beasley; and brothers, Lonnie and Haygood Blanton.
She is survived by her sons, Ronald Beasley of Sunset Beach and son, Craig Beasley of Memphis, Tenn.; a daughter, Jill Beasley of Grays Creek; a sister, Doris Jackson of Fayetteville; seven grandsons; eight granddaughters; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Evelyn was a member of Massey Hill Baptist Church and a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years. She was active as the childrenâs Bible drill leader for the New South River Baptist Association for many years, her favorite assignment from the Lord.
She completed her high school education in 1948 at Massey High School. She received an associate degree from Worth Business College in 1967 and a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from Fayetteville State University in 1983. She continued to work towards her Masterâs degree at N.C. State University.
She retired from civil service in the finance and accounting division of Fort Bragg after receiving many commendations and awards for excellence during the Cuban Crises, the Dominican Republic Conflict and the Persian Gulf War.
Evelyn was an avid reader, creative writer and believed that learning was for life. She wrote almost every day and much of her work was published in the Saturday weekly of the local newspaper.
Services for Ms. Beasley will be held at noon on Saturday, June 8, 2013 in Massey Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Tim Evans officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church. Burial will be in Cumberland Memorial Mausoleum following the funeral.
