Mrs. Elizabeth Spell âLibâ Thomas, 90, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2012 at home.
She was born in Sampson County, Oct. 20, 1921, to the late Annie S. and John S. Spell. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Elliott Spell, James Spell and Wilbur Spell; a sister, Kathleen S. Goudy; and son-in-law, the Rev. Lawrence E. Tew.
She was a member of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Fayetteville Chapter 334, the Order of Amaranth, Lafayette Court No. 6, and the Order of the White Shrine, Cape Fear No. 8.
She is survived by her husband Robert E. Thomas Sr. of Fayetteville, as of Nov. 1, 2012, they would have been married for 60 years; a son, Robert E. Thomas Jr. and wife Debbie of Flower Mound, Texas; three daughters, Betty J. Tew of Eastover; Barbara J. Thomas of Atlanta, and Linda T. Letourneau and husband Kevin Sr. of Virginia Beach, Va.; five grandchildren, Vicki T. Vance and husband Troy of Corinth, Ky., Kevin D. Tew of Raleigh, Robert E. Thomas III of Flower Mound, Joshua M. Thomas of Flower Mound, and Kevin J. Letourneau Jr. of Virginia Beach; a great-grandson, Devin M. Tew of Hope Mills; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012, at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church in the gathering hall from 2 to 3 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the churchâs chapel at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Robbie Byrd and the Rev. Jerry Parsons officiating. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville.
