Edna Sessoms Young Moore, 94, died on July 1, 2019 at Atrium Health Cleveland in Shelby,
NC. Edna was born in Cumberland County, the daughter of Lon and Scotia Sessoms. In
addition to her parents and five siblings, she was predeseased by her husband Carl Young,
who died in 1966 and Raymond Lee Moore who died in 2012. She and Carl had two
daughters, Brenda and Joyce. After the death of her first husband Carl, she went back to
school and mastered the skills to work at Fort Bragg and retired from there after 20 years.
While working at Ft. Bragg, she met and married Raymond Moore who had two children,
Kenneth and Joette.
Edna lived a long, productive life. She has always had boundless energy and enjoyed
cooking, baking, canning, gardening, sewing, listening to and sharing music with her friends
and family and was always active in her church, MacPherson Presbyterian Church. She also
shared the bounties of her cooking and baking with anyone in need, as well as family and
friends. Everyone was welcome at her table and she enjoyed preparing meals complete with
vegetables from Raymond’s garden and her signature homemade biscuits. She and Raymond
enjoyed many years RVing with their beloved dog, Mandy, to all parts of the country and
made many dear friends on their excursions.
She is survived by her daughters Brenda Moore and husband Bruce of Shelby, NC, Joyce
Young of Lillington, NC and Raymond’s children: Joette Midgett and husband Manley of Cary,
NC and Kenneth Moore and wife Mary Lou of Elizabethtown, NC. She had six grandchildren:
Suzanne Scott, and husband Hill, Jennifer Stimpson, Michael Moore and wife April, Kara
Heath, Joseph Heath and Katie Barker and husband Trent. In addition, Edna had 7
great-grandchildren: Bennett, Griffin, Finn, Callie, Parker, Fletcher and Gracie.
A celebration of life service will be held at MacPherson Presbyterian Church on July 9
at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 to 10:45 in the
church parlor.
The family wishes to thank her doctor, Dr. David Stewart, and Mrs. Barbara Burnside for their
continuing extraordinary care and support of her through the years.
Flowers are welcomed, as she always loved flowers. Memorials may also be made to
MacPherson Presbyterian Church, if preferred.
