E. Reese Atkinson
Elton Reese Atkinson, 86, of Fayetteville, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2016 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
He was born in Fayetteville on May 15, 1929. He is preceded in death by his parents Allie and Nina Atkinson; and brothers, Allie Atkinson Jr., Harold Atkinson, and Robert Lewis Atkinson.
He proudly served in the National Guard for 10 years. He was a Golden Glove Boxer in his early years, where he was known to send his opponent to Dreamland in less than a minute. He managed numerous ABC stores in the Cumberland County area before retiring after 33 years of dedicated service.
Reese is survived by his daughter, Myra Whitlock of Fayetteville; Deborah Atkinson of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Charles Posey, Natalie Cromartie, Jonathan Whitlock, Nathan Whitlock, Amanda Chambers, and Henry Atkinson-LaMontagne; great grandchildren, Destiny, Torri, Christian, Connor, and Willow; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside memorial service is planned for 10:00 am on Saturday, May 21, 2016, in Cross Creek Cemetery.
