Dr. Stanley G. Griffin, DDS, 79, of Fayetteville, embarked on his Heavenly journey Thursday, July 16, 2015, unexpectedly from heart complications.
He loved his extended biological, Fayetteville and Snyder Memorial Baptist Church families, and his Fayetteville roots ran deep. He resided with his beloved wife of 54 years, Faye Collier Griffin, where they lived lives blessed in love and rich in friendship.
He was a graduate of Fayetteville Senior High, Mars Hill Junior College, and received a Bachelor of Arts and Masterâs in public health from UNC-Chapel HIll. His crowning academic achievement and foundation for his professional life was his DDS degree from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1971. He served as president of the Dental Student body, was later a part time instructor there, and served the Fayetteville community as an active dentist par excellence for 44 years. During those years, his professional life was balanced with a life of devotion to Snyder Memorial Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir and served as a deacon for 44 years. He generously served as president of the Methodist College Foundation and member of the Board of Visitors there, as well as being a member of the Fayetteville Kiwanis Club. He gave generously of his time, being a member of the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce, as well as volunteering for the Salvation Army and the Fayetteville Care Clinic. Dr. Griffin previously served for two years in the Honor Guard Division of the U.S. Army, and traveled extensively through Europe during those years. Dr. Griffin achieved an amazing balance of family, faith, work and travel, and was amazingly adept at all.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Faye Griffin; beloved children, Steven Griffin, DDS, and Kristen Martin, who with her husband, Todd Martin, gave Dr. Griffin his beloved treasured grandchildren, Hope Elizabeth Martin and William Michael Martin. He is also survived by his wonderful sister, Margaret Fischer of Swampscott Mass.; and stepmother, Elizabeth Griffin.
He is now rejoicing to be reunited with his predeceased brothers Neal, Grover, Johnny and Robert; as well as brother-in-law, Jack Fischer. He loved all of them, and they him, and Dr. Griffin broke into one of the most animated and beaming smiles as he took his last breaths. We have no doubt that was inspired by the sight of his predeceased parents, G.L. and Glennie Griffin, as well as his brothers, to receive him and welcome him to Heavenâs gate.
In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to Snyder Memorial Baptist Church Music Ministry.
A funeral service officiated by Pastor John Cook will be conducted at noon on Saturday, July 16, 2015. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon prior to the service. Interment will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.
The Griffin family thanks you for being part of Dr. Griffinâs life, and if you knew him, you know you were richer for it. He felt the same way for having known you, and looks forward to greeting all of us with that generous and glowing smile when it is our turn for our own journeys beyond the world we know now.
Services are entrusted to Sullivanâs Highland Funeral service & Crematory of Fayetteville.
