Cora Mae Atkinson

Cora Mae Atkinson, 88 of Fayetteville passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Albert Atkinson, Jr; daughter, Wanda Rasch; sisters, Sue Newbold, Edna Steinbeck, Gladys Tew and Mazie Lee. She is survived by her daughters, Robin French and husband Bobby, and Julie Strickland and husband Lindsay. She had six grandchildren: Tara Tatum and husband Jason, Beverly Lovell and husband Josh, Lorie Martinez and husband Alex, Holly Warner and husband Cliff, MacLean Strickland and Haylie Strickland. She also had seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Atkinson was a faithful wife, loving mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a devoted and active church member at Second Baptist of Fayetteville, Massey Hill Baptist, and Village Baptist Churches through the years. Among other roles she loved singing in the choir. She was also well known as an excellent cook and seamstress.

She worked over the years at Christy’s Manufacturing, Big Star Grocery Store and Cumberland County Schools.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 24th at Village Baptist Church from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm with Revs. Nick Smith and John Cook officiating. The burial will follow at Lafayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street.
