FAYETTEVILLE - Clayton Spencer "Bill" Williams, of Fayetteville, died Thursday, June 16, 2011, in the N.C. State Veterans Nursing Home in Fayetteville.
Bill retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1966, and had a career with ACS Mechanical Contractors of Myrtle Beach, S.C. Bill came to Fayetteville in 1989, when he married Doris McPhail. They enjoyed 22 wonderful years together. Bill is survived by his wife, Doris McPhail-Williams; two sons, Clayton S. Williams Jr. and his wife, Susan, and Cliff D. Williams and his wife, Sidney, all of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; two daughters, Debra W. Gandy and her husband, Harry, of Boone, and Darla Williams and her fiance, Carl Moore, of Columbia, S.C.; two stepdaughters, Jill McPhail DeVore of Fayetteville, and Jamie McPhail Laney and husband Tom of Chapel Hill; and 10 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today, Saturday, June 18, 2011, in the chapel of Snyder Memorial Baptist Church. A visitation before the service will be from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. in the chapel. A graveside service will be held today at 4:30 p.m. in Hillcrest Cemetery in Conway, S.C.
