Deanna, Your Mom was a special lady & we became good friends when we worked together at Fort Bragg at what used to be called Engineers & Housing. I think we worked in the same Division about 15 years & we became good friends. I am so very sorry for your loss . You & all your family are in my thoughts & prayers. I surely will miss Sue.

I write this with sadness over the loss of a close friend to cancer, Sue Ackerman.
She was brave and did her best to fight for years but the cancer would not allow her to get better. She took each day in stride, never really complaining. We talked on the phone and I would ask what the doctors were saying but she never would give me the whole story. She did not want to upset me. She wanted to get on with her life. She had a daughter to care for.
This beautiful woman, inside and out, was a wonderful friend to me for over 40 years. She was authentic with people, saying what needs to be said because it's good for the relationship and for the soul. She put me in my place several times. I admired how she never forced her opinions on anyone, but offered valuable and truthful advice.
She always kept her sense of humor and even when she was on her death bed. I said to her that I wish I could take away her pain. Her response was, "You can have it."
She was a wonderful mother to her daughter, Deanna. She was always there for her and watched over her to make sure she had a great life, full of her values and wishes. She loved her sisters and would speak kindly of them to me. She left her rural home in Evergreen NC at an early age and made her own way having a great career, a home, family, and success in a competitive "man's world." I was very proud of her.
She was a true friend loving and real. We had fun along the way. I thought I had prepared myself for her death and I'm so glad I had chance to say goodbye, but no matter how prepared I thought I was for her death, I was not fully prepared for the loss and the grief.
I can only hope that she felt the love she was surrounded with in her final days at home. I will not forget her.

Dear family and friends we are praying for you. Deanna never had the chance to meet you but hear great things about you. I lost my Mom and Dad it is hard for losing your love ones. I always told my children when you go through such a loss keep them alive. That means talking about them sharing stories the good and bad. They will always be with you. Beverly is my best friend she would talk about your mom and Danny told me she could cook him a good breakfast. They will always be there for you we are both lucky to have a best friend and you have a great aunt and uncle. Bless you take care of yourself. Gail & George Futch
