Archie Barnhill, 86, of Fayetteville passed away at Cape Fear Valley Hospital on November 18, 2024, surrounded by his family.
He was born on September 2, 1938, in St. Paul’s, NC to the late Eva Barnhill. Also preceding him in death was his son, Archie Clinton Barnhill and his great-grandson, Sonny Raven.
Archie was married to Gloria, the love of his life for just shy of 65 years. They were two peas in a pod and were always together. Their love and devotion for each other was a thing of beauty and we are sure that Gloria was waiting at the pearly gates with Jesus to welcome him home.
He was a barber from 1960-1966 and then he decided to attend Masonry school. After graduating from Masonry School, he worked on Ft. Bragg until he went to work for the City of Fayetteville as a Master Brick Mason. After retiring from the city, he was self employed and built beautiful things all over the cities of Fayetteville and Hope Mills. His logo was “No job too small”.
Archie was a member of Praise Fellowship Church of God (formerly C & Adams Street Church of God) for 64 years. He served in many positions at the church during that time including Church Usher and he also helped to build the church building that is now the Loftis Center. He loved to read the lesson for his Sunday school class.
He was always the best dressed man in the room. Archie had a hat to match every outfit. His personality was contagious and he always had a comment or a joke to put a smile on your face.
Archie was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Providing for his family was one of the greatest joys of his life. He was the most generous, giving, and loving person you could ever meet. He loved his girls and his family with his whole heart. There are no words that could ever express how blessed we were to have him as a father. His faith in Jesus has created a legacy throughout his whole family. He will be missed more than words can ever express.
We encourage you to honor dad by wearing his favorite color red at his service and hats are also welcome.
Left to cherish Archie’s memory are his children, Georgia Williams (Randy), Sherri Jordan (Robert), Maria Pollick (Carl), and Sonya Barnhill; grandchildren, Glenn Archie Decker, Dallas Clinton Williams(Amanda), Eric Robert Jordan, Alan Gene Jordan (Jessica), Tre’ DeTar, Ian DeTar, Zack DeTar, Taylor Raven (Ryan), Morgan McLean, and Sherry Brown; great-grandchildren, Wren Williams, Clint Williams, Alaina DeTar, Chloe DeTar, Caleb DeTar, Charlie Williams, Meadow DeTar, Elara DeTar, and Jade Raven; several nieces and nephews; honorary daughter, Sharlene Lee.
A memorial service is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Praise Fellowship Church of God with Pastor Kevin Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends after the service in the Loftis Center.
Services are entrusted to Sullivan’s Highland Funeral Service & Crematory.
