Arch Owen Cox III, 54, died Wednesday, January 16 at his home following an extended illness.
Archie surrendered his life to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in 1996. He worshipped at Trinity Baptist Church, and served there as a deacon and Sunday School teacher, as well as in several other positions. Earlier this year, Archie was ordained by Trinity as a Minister of the Gospel.
In 2006 Archie retired from the Fayetteville Fire Department as a captain after 28 years of service. During his career, he received many awards and certifications (including Outstanding Young Firefighter in 1983), but his proudest achievement was the establishment of the Honor Guard in 1988. After retiring he continued to serve the department by returning as a Chaplain and by commanding the Honor Guard.
Archie was preceded in death by his father, Arch Owen (Buddy) Cox, Jr.; mother Kathleen Cox; and two brothers, Johnny Sessoms and Steve Sessoms.
He is survived by his loving wife Robin P. Cox; two brothers, Bobby Cox, and Woody Cox and his wife Candace; 14 nieces and nephews; and dear in-laws who loved him as a brother.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 19, 2013, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Sullivan's Highland Funeral Service & Crematory. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 20 at Trinity Baptist Church.
